Last Thursday, 16th August, our School Captain, Luka won the Regional Final for the NSW Multicultural Public Speaking Competition at Lambton P.S. She presented a prepared speech about "Community Spirit" where she focused on the community spirit which exists in the Woodville community. Each finalist then had to "endure" the impromptu speech section with the topic being " Nothing ventured, nothing gained" Luka did a wonderful job with this presentation, with one of the judges (there were three) saying it was the "best they had ever seen". The prepared and impromptu speeches have equal weightingwith the judges. The standard was very high as each student was the respective winner for their zone--Luka the winner for the Maitland Zone. There are about 300 public schools in the Hunter / Central Coast Region, so her effort in winning this competition was a wonderful achievement--and a great advertisement for small schools' education! She will now compete in the NSW State final in November at the ABC studios in Ultimo. We are very proud of her and wish her every success in the final.
